CHICAGO (Feb. 20, 2018) — Forward Space, a leading authorized Steelcase dealer, opened a new showroom in the Design Center at the Merchandise Mart (theMART). The Chicagoland-based office furniture distributor opened its doors on the sixth floor of theMART today, pointing towards a progressive fusion of residential and workplace design.

The 4,100-square-foot showroom features an extensive portfolio of products, ranging from seating and tables to storage solutions and surface materials, and including lines from newly formed Steelcase partnerships with BluDot, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams and FLOS. The location in the Design Center will serve as an interactive space for designers to view and select products, giving them the opportunity to explore design possibilities and discover creative solutions.

5th Annual Outdoor Design Conference to Be Held At The Design Center at the Merchandise Mart’s
Chicago (Feb. 16, 2018) — The Design Center at the Merchandise Mart, Chicago’s ultimate destination for outdoor furnishings, is excited to announce that registration is now open for its 5th annual Outdoor Design Conference, taking place on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
The one-day, trade-only event features more than 65 programs, including continuing education units (CEUs), featured presentations, product debuts and showroom events that showcase the latest in outdoor residential design knowledge and trends from Design Center’s top casual furnishings showrooms.
“The conference is thriving, as 2018 marks the largest Outdoor Design Conference program we have hosted to date. We have an increased number of showroom events and open houses this year, as well as a number of new and exciting product launches,” said Beth Hicks, managing director, marketing, for Design Center and Casual Market Chicago. “The program includes educational sessions that will truly give design professionals a valuable look into the latest innovations in outdoor furnishings and décor.”
CEUs include presentations on emerging trends in outdoor design for 2018, tips on how to choose the best outdoor design medium for a project and eliminating the challenges of teak maintenance. In addition, Owner and President of Schmechtig Landscapes, Michael Schmechtig, will host a panel discussion on the advancement of outdoor entertaining, which will discuss the innovative materials, equipment and technology that are transforming outdoor design. Design professionals can earn .1 CEU credits for each course.
Twenty-eight showrooms will host open houses during Outdoor Design Conference, welcoming guests with product launches, raffles and refreshments.
